Summary: Emily wasn’t sure how she was supposed to take this news, and she had no idea the next step.
Emily had kept quiet all day about the occasional stomach pains she had been having. They had a case to work, and everybody was under a lot of stress. They felt like cramps that she sometimes got on her period. She was tempted to ask J.J. if she had experienced anything like this during her pregnancy but when the pains disappeared in the afternoon, she thought all was well.
It wasn’t until when the team broke up for the night, that the pains started getting more intense. Without saying a single word, Spencer took her aside, and led her to one of the SUVs the team was using.
The pain was unbearable, and she did not even have time to think about how he was driving with his leg cast. Maybe the pain was making her cloudy, but it seemed he drove just as efficient as he always did. (Though if you asked Morgan, Spencer was a bad driver, which wasn’t true at all.)
Now, Emily sat on an examine table in an intense care clinic that was close to the motel where they were staying. She knew reasonably they needed the room, but she couldn’t do anything other than sob.
Spencer had pulled himself beside her when the nurse had left, and held her in a strong hug. He kissed the top of her hair.
Yesterday, she had just found out she was pregnant. She still had not processed the effect of it. Now, all the possibilities of what might have been were hitting her hard. She had no idea what she was supposed to be doing right now.
“I am not sure if I can finish the case or not.” She managed to say weakly.
Spencer hugged her tighter. “Whatever you want to do is what we will do.” He stroked her back.
She let out a tiny sigh, and put her head closer to his shoulder. “I am not even sure what I want to do.” She said, before another wave of sobs hit her. She had the sudden thought that this was her last chance to find out if she could be a good mother.
Spencer seemed on the verge of asking her something when the nurse came in, leading J.J. into the room.
Spencer let go of Emily for a second, so J.J. could give her a tight hug.
“What are you doing here?” Emily asked confused. She hadn’t seen Spencer tell anyone where he was taking her. She felt like she needed to say a million more things but nothing else would come out of her mouth.
“After Foyet breaking into Hotch’s house, you don’t think we are going to notice when some of the team members are not where we can find them. I had Garcia track your cellphone.” She rubbed Emily’s shoulder.
Emily tried to give her a smile of thanks, but fell short. She knew the nurse hadn’t told J.J. what happened, but Spencer had been asking her random questions all day about Henry, so she was sure J.J. already knew what happened. Emily managed to give J.J. a small nod.
“I didn’t tell Hotch or anyone where you guys were, I figured you would talk to us when you are ready.”
Emily nodded again. “I don’t know how I am feeling about it right now. I am not sure if I could even finish the case right now.” Spencer protectively put his arm around her again, just as she felt another sob start to rise.
J.J.’s cellphone rang. “I have to head back, I will have everyone work around you guys, if you feel you can’t continue.” She hugged them both briefly.
