Title: Moonfall
The final verse reached a crescendo then dissipated again, each voice in the perfectly synchronised harmony fading out in the reverse of the order they'd come in. Veins of power spread through the ground from the concert of witches, reaching out to everyone frozen in crystalline prisons, releasing them in a burst of light.
Then the rumbling began, the sky darkening and the remaining light developing a crimson hue. They didn't know what they'd done wrong, only that it was something bad, catastrophically so. Blood-red vines descended from a moon that was coming rapidly closer. Strange humanoid shapes swarmed down the vines or flew around them, looking a little like milling ants while they were far away, then coalescing into the forms of angels, the malicious types they'd met before, the soulless ones that slaughtered both sides while singing their own song of pure destruction in their automaton-like voices.
Marie screamed, clutching at her skull, desperately trying to plug her ears. Lisette clutched her tight, telling her it would be okay.
Klaus was nowhere to be found.
