Summary: Isaac explains what he has learned about handling Djinni.

 

You had to be careful with Djinni. They would look all happy and relaxed, maybe even come up to you and sniff your hand, then suddenly screech and launch into a vicious elemental magic assault. Or just bite you and run off, if you were lucky. Their personalities were all different - Mars Djinni were quick to anger, Jupiter could never stop moving around, Mercury got depressed easily and Venus were loyal and loving but expected such in return and became very angry if they considered you to have betrayed them. You had to understand your Djinn's personality if you wanted a good working relationship, meet them half way. Respect was important, too. They weren't just small pets who could set you on fire, they were shards of a world that had been around for billions of years, maybe not quite fully self-aware and sentient by human standards but likely intelligent in its own alien, basic way. Finally, like the world's seasons, currents and tides, they weren't quite individuals in the way humans were, but rather, their souls were all linked to each other. That made them very dangerous in combat, such an efficiently coordinated unit they were, but it was also important to remember that they cared about each other a lot once they were introduced to a pack, a lot more than they cared about you, that to do something to one was to affect all of them. In the end, they were temporary allies whose goals coincided with yours. They weren't your pets.
