Summary: A headcanon AU I've used before where a somehow emancipated Metal Sonic is stuck in an abandoned Bad Future trying to fix what he can. His favourite zone has always been Stardust Speedway.
Of all the zones on this forsaken world, Stardust Speedway was the one that had retained its beauty the most, maybe even created its own unique charm.
A lot of the zones were no longer accessible without a lethal fall, a swim through lava or collapsing the whole thing on top of you if you sneezed too hard. If you could reach them, a lot of them no longer had any function, their resources depleted. He had them properly closed off one by one with explosives.
Stardust Speedway had its own problems but he was fixing them. He had torn down the statue of Robotnik in the town square, used it to build more shelters for malfunctioning robots still loyal to him to hide in. Some of the robots from the old mines he had managed to reprogram with the task of patching up the old musical instruments and now his fanfare of revolution played throughout the town.
Every night, he looked up at the boiling magenta sparkles, tiny motes of light, champagne fizzes through dying neon. He fancied they were the death throes of stars - maybe, he thought with a shiver, of a cosmos at the end of its lifespan as the Universe began to wither from entropy, its time controls overused for one unintended purpose.
It was a magnificent apocalypse.
When he became too morose, he reminded himself that they were actually low power warnings from the world's outer shell. While it would become problematic when the power went off altogether, it would also lower the bars to his prison.
He had gathered up all the old teleporters. It was just a case of diverting the power.
