Summary: It's a dog eat frog world out there! Tatsu 'helps' L learn new human phrases.
"It's a dog eat frog world out there," L muttered to himself as he pulled off his Skell flightsuit and reminisced about the tough battle they had only just finished after three days and barely survived.
"Dog no eat frog," piped up a small, high-pitched voice. L hadn't even realised anyone else was in Headquarters. His team-mates had needed urgent medical attention. Tatsu emerged from a cupboard under the sink, holding a frying pan almost large enough for him to sit inside. The Nopon merchant looked to be in a good mood.
"Tatsu try," elaborated the Nopon, "Dog no interested, even when frog have ketchup on. Maybe L get mixed up with Doug? Tatsu definitely see Doug eat frog once. Yes."
"Why, thank you, Tatsu, your contributions to my anthropological research are always useful!" the tall Xeno beamed, "Soon I will achieve complete mastery over the vernacular of this complicated language!"
"Tatsu always here to help," agreed the Nopon, hovering onto the counter with his diminutive head-wings and grabbing assorted cans and packets from the cupboard. The meal he was planning looked complicated. Lin was probably involved.
Suddenly, the Nopon snapped the fingers of his head-wings, causing him to drift back onto the floor, where a recently awoken cat jumped up and swiped at him. L grabbed the cat before it could knock the food everywhere. It seemed happy to stay in his arms and purr at him.
"Dog try and eat Doug once," he said, "Linly was very cross with doggy and smacked it with a beam lance. Dog was big and shiny, so Doug chase halfway across Mira before fall in lake and get stuck."
"So, it's a Dog eat Doug world?" asked L, stroking the cat's lush white and grey fur.
"Doug eat dog once. Was hungry," said Tatsu, "Doug swear not true but Doug say anything. We Xeno need to stick together, you know, or stupid humans take over."
"I intend to learn their ways eventually. Their greed is their weakness, you know. No other species can defeat us in the commercial battlefield, though."
"You need any more help, just ask Tatsu," advised the Nopon, "Still can't find fat baby yet, by the way. Nopon not count, Nopon supposed to be round. Maybe by fat baby you mean Doug?"
L nodded sagely before wandering off to the hangar to begin the repairs on his battered Skell. The cat had fallen asleep in his arms.
