Title: Throw Away (The Will To Live)
Author:  tehexile
Fandom: Tears to Tiara 2: Heir of the Overlord
Pairing/Characters: Hamil/Tarte
Rating/Category: T/Het
Word Count: 366
Spoilers: some spoilers
Summary: Hamil had waited so long to let it all go. It wasn't even supposed to happen right now, but then she was there...
Author's note: I really need to finish this damn game but suddenly everything's only doing 1 damage unless I get it all exactly perfect and yet the walkthrough says I'm actually overlevelled and AAAAAAARGH...

Keeping his rebellious streak in check for all those years had been so tiring. Now that he could finally let go, he felt a rush of exhilaration along with the rising wellsprings of dark magic and the all-enveloping crimson mists of battle rage, filling his mouth with feral growls and the rusty tang of the blood and fear he could smell all around him.

He had been given no aid for so long. His would-be allies assumed his patience to be cowardice, simple-mindedness, maybe even deliberate betrayal. They had no idea what he was holding inside of himself, what kind of powers were only growing as they were concentrated in a small space like an explosion waiting to burst out of the confines of his soul. Even when his powers were new and relatively weak, he already understood how vital it was that he not lose control until the precise moment he knew that it was absolutely necessary. If it could be resolved any other way, he resolved never to even try and unlock the power. He had no idea how long it was already brewing before he noticed it, whether he would be able to take control again once the need for it was gone, or whether it would claim him altogether for his own purposes.

So he had endured slavery, beatings, long hours of toil in the baking desert sun, humiliation in front of his people who had long since stopped considering him a good representative for their proud race, all so that nobody would suspect a thing. That, and to make sure they didn't rely on him, that they were strong enough to form their own rebellion, maybe even in spite of him, if it turned out he wasn't the one in control after all.

He hadn't meant to let go quite this early. He still wanted to wait and watch, to work out exactly where this was going and the optimal moment to strike. Then she came into his life, and suddenly she was involved, seemingly always in the thick of it.

He was prepared to throw it all away for her.

It took him a whole longer to figure out why.

A rare fandom, indeed! :-D Tasty fill! (I've got this on my PS3, though I've not been able to do much with it yet.)
