"You know, I was surprised to find out you were a demon of gluttony."

I hadn't expected her look so offended by this, her reddening cheeks lighting up her still pale skin, her rosy-lipped, imperious pout still sending a hot flush to my own cheeks. Her forked tail was standing on end, like a startled kitten's.

Everything she does is so damn cute, and no longer in a childish way.

"I will have you know," she huffed, "I am a perfect paragon of gluttony."

"Um, you do know that gluttony is a vice, right, not a virtue? And you don't usually say you're a paragon of a... ph, right. Probably the other way round in Hell, hm?"

"Yeah, we're not like those creepy self-righteous divine beings who think that denying yourself things you want is natural and good, and even force others to do the same!"

Yeah, because you never ever force others to act like you...

"I'm sorry," I hastily replied, "I just meant that you're very slim, with beautiful skin, and that's kind of the complete opposite of what a demon of gluttony would classically look like in a painting."

And the sin your existence tempts me into - not that it feels like a sin when you're so damn open and accepting and cute about it - is definitely not gluttony.

"Oh, well, you shouldn't have let those divine beings inspire all your best Renaissance painters, then! Honestly, you give them way more influence over your culture than they deserve," she pouted. Then she suddenly looked uncharacteristically somber, like a bedraggled sheep with her short curly hair and still tiny curved horns, "You know, if I had been a normal demon like my sisters, it'd be one of my duties to balance out their power. It'd get me in a lot of fights with them, because they don't understand balance, they think everything they do is good and right."

"Politics is that bad on Earth, too, I'm afraid," I warned her, not actually being able to imagine her in a fight but remembering how strong and stubborn she really was, and that she could allegedly steal souls, although I'd never seen this in action.

Although, come to think of it, we no longer had trouble with yapping dogs in the middle of the night. Or pushy door-to-door salesmen.

I suddenly wondered if it would be ethically justifiable to give her a big list of religious fundamentalist politicians I didn't like and tell her to go wild.
