Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2, Raidou/?, challenge #202: Serendipity, tehexile
Title: Luck be a Lady
Author: [personal profile] tehexile
Fandom: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon
Pairing/Characters: Raidou/?
Rating/Category: T/Het
Word Count: 288
Spoilers: major spoilers
Summary: Post-game, Raidou muses about the nature of luck as he prepares for his date.
Notes/Warnings: gonna try and get back into doing these again...
Upon reflection, he knew exactly why Abaddon's plan failed. A demon's concept of luck was not the same as the laws that applied to humans. There was no real absolute good or bad luck when it came to human motives or their chaotic way of thinking. Bad luck for one person was usually good luck for someone else, even if the only ones who profited in the end were flies and maggots, plagues and the mold growing on gravestones. And that was only a simplification again. They said luck was a lady but in his experience, it was at least three ladies, all of them who knew each other and would never forgive him if he hurt one of the others, all of them still interested in him to the point that they wouldn't stop turning up everywhere and yet somehow they made him feel like the bad one. All of them the sort of woman who was dangerous in herself and who also couldn't seem to stop landing them both in all sorts of interesting situations, in the Chinese proverb sense of the word. In fact, that was what the true face of luck was like: 'interesting'. Capricious, whimsical, always extreme, the sort of 'help' that usually got you in more trouble than it was worth in the end. The only way he was gonna get out of this was to stop letting the winds of fate blow him where they will and take some decisive action, loathe as he was to fake the consequences. He straightened his tie, applied some more aftershave and picked up the flowers. His one day off this month and he was on a more dangerous mission than any fight against demons.
