Surprise! Val's handler (who is a DOLL, btw), called Emily this afternoon to tell her that Val would be able to see me today. I hadn't brought my books because I didn't think I'd need them, but long story short, I had to run to the hotel and back to be in time for our meeting. I am not in condition to be doing that, btw. My pancreassssssss.

So Emily, my copies of The Kilmer Cure, and I came into Val's room, and he was just there, like it's a normal thing to walk into a room and see Val Kilmer sitting there. He said hi and I said hi, and I handed him a copy of my book. He asked why I wrote it, why him, and when I explained it to him, he seemed genuinely touched. I thanked him for getting me through that rough time in my life, and he took my hand and squeezed it, and just kind of nodded.

He insisted on signing everything. I brought seven copies of the book (it was all I had on hand, and I wasn't sure how many I'd need). I gave one to Val, and he signed the rest:

A couple of the books I had signed for a bookstore in Savannah, and for those he signed them like this:

THAT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER, I CAN'T.

There was a rose in a vase on his table, and he gave it to me (signing the vase, of course), saying, "Women should have flowers." I am dead. It was amazing. My heart has grown so many sizes.

Thriller (Part One)

[I wrote this post a month ago, but it took me a while to do the pictures and fix it up. I'm catching up now, though!]

I have returned to watching some Thriller installments (a 1970s ITC/ATV film anthology created and frequently written by Brian Clemens, of The Avengers and Professionals fame. It's not like The Avengers, though. Brian Clemens has clearly forgotten the possibility that sometimes women can sort stuff out themselves without being rescued by men. If they're rescued at all, this being a thriller anthology.)

Anyway, do you want to hear all about how innocent American tourists were terrorised every time they came to Britain in the 1970s? Surely, you must. I will oblige, by reviewing my viewing so far, before I forget. (This is a 16-disc set!)

Cut for recaps, spoilers, flippancy and picspam )

Yeah, I'm the loser who doesn't have a (serious) tumblr account. By serious, I mean something I manage to maintain regularly. I have created 2 accounts, one for a writing challenge for Sharkbait (ship name for Matsuoka Rin and Nanase Haruka of Free!) which I hardly touched since I created it last October of... was it 2014? Omigosh, I can't even remember. Then there's the tumblr shrine for Anzai Shintaro which I haven't touched in more than a year and a half. I've noticed most fanfic authors use tumblr as a platform to share anything fic-related.

I have this DW and LJ blog which was originally created for the purpose of using it under my fanfic pseudonym to share anything fic-related. But somewhere along the line, I began using it more as a personal journal.

Now I hope to use these blogs to post any news or updates related to fanfictions I write. Not that I think anyone would be interested, but in case readers ask for a place where they can check whether I'm still alive if I'm not updating any of my works in progress in like 6 months or so, I'll go ahead and point them here.

So what am I currently working on? Well, a lot. But life always get in the way.
1)Turbulence - I missed my posting date for [community profile] unconventionalcourtship because I haven't been able to finish the fic I'm writing. The fic is based on the Harlequin summary of Turbulent Covenant by Jessica Steele. I purposely looked for any Harlequin or Mills & Boon summary related to airline pilots because I wanted to write a story about Jinguji Ren and Hijirikawa Masato of UtaPri being pilots, inspired by the promo banner I created for the challenge and well, I created a fic banner out of it:

banner and excerpt )

2) Cardboard Bridges - working on the last chapter and eager to move on to the 3rd part of the series.

excerpt )

3) Horizon - I haven't started with the next chapter yet.

4) Bound by Destiny - I need to start on the next chapter before I forget about this. Again.

5) Within This Vast Star - I am working on the next chapter, but I aim to finish this before I start posting again. And I am planning to change the title.

excerpt )

There are others, most of which are entries for Trope Bingo round 9, but I'm too lazy to go through them now. Now that I think about it, most of my works in progress are for the UtaPri fandom. I need to write more for the others. I do follow more than 30 fandoms.

I am enjoying YS 8 so much at the moment! They really did well with the music in particular and atmosphere in general, which is the most important thing with a Falcom game. I hate the party system in modern Ys games but it didn't feel too jarring. Already it sort of feels like ti fits in with the older games.

I am going to be streaming it as I play on my channel at twitch.tv/doan2300.

problems

I was surprised by how okay I was feeling for the first few days of my trip. I was tired af and it's hard and painful to move, but my headaches were not bad at all.

Yeah, that didn't last. The past two days I have had monster migraines. Yesterday, I actually passed out because of the pain. I am derailed and I'm scared it's going to continue and I won't be able to do anything or enjoy myself at all. Come on, health. I deserve nice things every once in a while.

You may remember that my flight home from San Francisco cost more than my mother's round trip, and that's before bags and other add ons. I found another flight for less than half what I paid, so I went to cancel the first flight. Because it was so expensive, I paid for flight insurance, so I figured canceling and getting a refund would be easy.

WRONG. I was unable to cancel through Delta, and when I went to the flight insurance website, I discovered you can only get a refund if you meet one of the pre-approved reasons for not being able to fly. It requires documentation. I had to submit my discharge papers from the hospital, which is wildly intrusive, and they can still reject my claim. Oh, and they will take 10 business days to render a verdict. Meanwhile, the flight I was counting on has doubled in price, so I am, to use a technical term, totally fucked.

Also, Frontier finally responded to my complaint about the assistance they failed to provide me, and they have offered me a $50 flight voucher. Nuh uh. I am going to call and demand that refund the $130 I had to pay in bag fees because they did not provide someone to help me carry them as promised. Fucks sake.

Things will turn out. I hope. How? It's a mystery.

Remix Revival

[community profile] remixrevival went live yesterday, and Remix Madness today and I had a remixed fic in each! (I didn't until late yesterday, though; only my regular Remix and then I poked at Madness and was startled to see that it had a Chalet School/DW crossover involving Miss Annersley and Seven, because it seemed extremely unlikely that someone else as well as me had done that, and they hadn't. It had just been slipped in while I wasn't looking!)

Anyway, in unexpected Remixes, my official Remix fic is a reworking of my old NYR 2009 Dungeons & Dragons fic, via a clever device:

Among the Shattered Tales (The girl once helped remix) (1235 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sheila "the Thief", Hank "the Ranger", Original Female Character(s)
Additional Tags: Implied Sheila/Hank
Summary: She has many stories, but for some reason a lot of people like this one.

And in my even more unexpected Remix from Madness, I have this really lovely little reversed-POV version of Each A Glimpse and Gone Forever in which Seven turns up on a train in time to help out a young and grieving not-yet-Miss Annersley; all the more pleasing because the original is an odd little piece I have a lot of fondness for:

In The Wink Of An Eye (Each A Glimpse, And Gone Forever Remix) (819 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chalet School - Elinor M. Brent-Dyer, Doctor Who
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Hilda Annersley, Seventh Doctor
Additional Tags: Remix
Summary: On the worst train journey of her young life, Hilda Annersley meets a kind - if unusual - stranger.

I see Madness doesn't actually close till the 25th, so maybe I should have another go, but for that I might need brain and mine got used up today dealing with insurance renewal, blah blah blah. (In the usual nature of these things, the simple thing is complicated by technology being disobliging because OF COURSE and is still only part done. Probably.)

Still, I am rewatching The Shadow of the Tower, so that keeps me reasonably happy. (I even dreamt the other night that James Maxwell held my hand for a moment. He was a fleeting sort of time ghost, part of a performance that had slipped through time to where I was lying, which apparently kept my pesky inner dream monitor from spoiling things with the usual "well, that isn't v realistic, we can't have this, and WHY ARE THERE BEES/isn't he dead etc. etc." Bees = totally implausible. Timeslip ghosts = perfectly natural and believable.)

Hello, I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] kadma. Thanks in advance for writing/creating for me! Below, you'll find a list of my general likes and do not wants, followed by a short paragraph per fandom of prompts / suggestions, all of which are optional.

General Likes:
  • PWP / smut
  • feelings / introspection
  • missing scenes / codas
  • in-character dialog makes my heart race

Do-Not-Wants:
  • het or m/m, even minor/background (unless present in canon)
  • illegal drugs (inc. marijuana)
  • animal abuse / death
  • alpha / beta / omega and bestiality
  • bodily fluids (kink and non-kink)
  • pregnancy & kid-fic
  • first person POV
  • out of character characters
  • crossovers

REQUESTS

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)
  • Alicia Fox
  • Asuka
  • Bayley
  • Charlotte Flair
  • Naomi Knight
  • Sasha Banks
Trick: AUs! AUs all day. Witchcraft, Vampires & Werewolves, Generic Slasher Movie, etc. These characters are so vibrant that they'd fit perfectly into all manner of occult alternate universes, and I'd love to see how you incorporate a shippy dynamic into your story. Of course, there's the dark route of Cultists, Human Sacrifice, Zombie Apocaplypse, etc. Go wild! An alternative is dealing with real-life horror stories: Alicia's struggle with mental illnesses & the way she's treated by others, Sasha succumbing to injury during a pivotal time in her career, Charlotte forever trying to step outside her father's shadow, etc.

Treat: Anything... femslash and domestic... would be a treat to me...! ;)

H2O: Just Add Water
  • Bella Hartley
  • Charlotte Watsford
  • Cleo Sertori
  • Emma Gilbert
  • Miriam Kent
  • Rikki Chadwick
Trick: I'd love to see a darker take on a full-moon; perhaps one of the mermaids accidentally hurts someone close to them and has to deal with the consequences, or perhaps Charlotte discovers a way to utilise the full moon to her advantage in a twisted way. An alternate universe where the girls are another supernatural creature instead of mermaids could be interesting too!

Treat: I'd love to see a friends-to-lovers relationship with any of the protagonists. As for Miriam and Charlotte, they could both use some new friends... in each other? Perhaps they kept in touch when Charlotte left.

Stardew Valley
  • Abigail
  • Emily
  • Haley
  • Leah
  • Maru
  • Penny
  • Sandy
Trick: While researching the occult, Abigail accidentally summons something... scary. Haley asks her sister (jokingly!) for a love potion because she's got a crush, and Emily, in all seriousness, gives her a cute little vial. Does Haley use it, and if so, what happens next?

Treat: Maru and Penny try their hands at pumpkin carving for the first time -- how does that go? Leah almost burns down her cottage trying to make a Halloween-themed sculpture: who helps her clean up? Sandy visits Pelican Town one Halloween.

As you can see, I'm a huge fan of femslash! Hopefully, these prompts gave you an idea of what sort of stuff I like. Oh, and happy Halloween! <3

doing A LOT better already on the physical health front. probably going to ignore fic/poetry for the next couple days though - my brain is still not 100% online.

in random: lately, the only way i can fall asleep is by constructing fics i'll probably never write. why do i do this. help me.

my soundtrack for the rest of the year, most likely: tswift's reputation, halsey's hfk, melanie martinez's crybaby, and lorde's melodrama. (might add an album or two from my backlog of to-listen ani difranco or andrew bird or fiona apple, but then again, might not.)

I Can Haz Internet?

Yes, it turns out. Yes I can.

Finally, after over a month of arguing with our former provider (and waiting for our new provider to send out an engineer), we have internet! Huzzah!

It's been a long and boring month and a half - no TV, no Netflix or Prime, no reddit to while away the hours, and certainly no AO3.

Well, perhaps boring is a little unfair. I have spent that time working my way through all the unread books languishing on my new shelves (Ikea's finest - well, second crappest - the move was an entirely too expensive affair). Some were excellent, some meh, and one really rather dire. But you live and learn. Or read and learn, as the case may be.

Currently, I'm reading my way through the the Doctor Who New Adventures series. Or the ones I can get my grubby little mitts on, at any rate - which turns out to be Love and War, No Future, Set Piece, Human Nature, and Damaged Goods. Just finished Love and War (which was fantastic. Ugly, but fantastic), and No Future (angst and double crossing central!).

The Seventh Doctor is rapidly becoming my favourite (a position previously held by the Fourth), manipulative git that he is. I'm also finding the more I read stories featuring Bernice, the more I'm warming to her as a character. Though I highly doubt she will replace Ace as my favourite companion for Seven, I'm certainly enjoying her adventures through time and space.

As of this evening, I'm about half way through Human Nature, which I am enjoying immensely. Having seen the New Who adaptation with Ten (Human Nature/Family of Blood) and thoroughly enjoyed it at the time, I was a little dubious at first. But oh my, it works so much better as a Seventh Doctor story. I'm really enjoying the way it picks apart what the Doctor is and what he very much isn't (but what else was it going to do, being written by Paul Cornell? Picking apart characters and pushing them to their extremes seems to be his raison d'etre). And John Smith in a Seventh Doctor mould is so unbearably sweet I almost can't stand it. Almost.

Am very much looking forward to seeing how it ends. Though I suspect it's going to break my heart, just like Love and War.

We shall see.
