Since all the eps have gone off YouTube, I'm consoling myself with fic. It's not working.

smiley-b, throw a prompt my way for Kate/Geoff or Gibbo/Sharon (G/S way more likely. So much to fix!)

the deathly hallows (part one)

So, my sister saw these tattoos and decided we had to get them, and my brother and I were like cool, we're up for that.

(Normally I would feel shitty for stealing someone else's tattoo idea, but since it was really JK Rowling's design originally, I'm feeling okay with it.)

So the question became: Who gets which hallow? My sister asked our whole family, family friends, etc., which of us they associate with each of the deathly hallows.

The results were unanimous. Every single person said the same thing: Carly, resurrection stone (I mean obvs, with my history Lady Lazarusing); Ashley, elder wand; Alex, invisibility cloak.

Okay, by unanimous, I mean every person consulted agrees, but that isn't how Ashley wants it. She wants the invisibility cloak. (Because, she says, she is the responsible one and would make a responsible choice.) Here's the thing: My sister is Slytherin af. She is by an enormous margin the most ambitious of the three of us. She is confident and goal-oriented, total Type A. She is very motivated by money and status, she is super competitive and cannot stand to lose, and she has a kind of Machiavellian sensibility about her when it comes to making decisions. She likes power. She likes to be in charge. She likes to win.

She would hella want that wand.

"But the first brother was arrogant," she said, "and he died."

They all died, I pointed out, but the first brother died in pursuit of greatness, and the third brother evaded death basically by being chill and doing as little as possible, which is my brother's style. The man is 28, and I still wrap presents for him for every occasion, and tell him what to buy. Half the time, I do the shopping for him, and just ask that he pay me back. This has a success rate of about 50%. (I can't decide what his house is. I was thinking Hufflepuff because of how averse to conflict and laid back he is, but Hufflepuffs are also supposed to be industrious and hardworking, so...)

(Also, no one who knows us would be surprised that we are of three different houses. My grandmother told us once that we are the most dissimilar siblings she's ever met, and she has 27 grandchildren.)

PSA: I am not a literal, call the doctor "hazard to myself" rn. I don't want my self deprecation to worry anyone. I'm safe. Kiss.

Making a playlist dedicated to my deteriorating mental state and general fuck-up-edness is prob what my pdoc means by healthy projects, right?

(Work in progress. Recommendations welcome.)

This is Part IV in the Sanctuary Series. You can find the other parts of this series at the links below.

PART I – Sanctuary
PART II – Anchor
PART III – Confluence

Dating is a minefield. And that’s just when you’re single, nevermind in a definitely-not-a-relationship with a man who might technically be your boss.

If Buffy were a betting woman, she’d put money on Giles being jealous. But she isn’t, and he’s definitely not.

It's the last day of my vacation-staycation-weekend.

I went to the State Fair on Tuesday afternoon, and did a quick skim through the various exhibits and the animal barn, had some bad fair food, then saw the Queen cover band, Queen Nation. I've been wanting to see them for a couple of years, but they are usually scheduled for Con*Strict weekend. I did enjoy them, and the crowd singing, but the lead fellow just didn't have a voice as good as Freddie Mercury's. Good to have achieved; don't need to repeat.

I had dinner with one friend on Tuesday at the Old Spaghetti Factory (we both love the mizithra cheese), tea with a group of friends on Thursday afternoon, and dinner at another friend's house on Friday, with the old Whovian gang. It's been good to see people.

I have not done as much as it feels like I could have done, but I've made an effort to be relaxed and not overdo, so I will be happy that I stuck to that promise. I have the sheetrock repair scheduled, which I have been ignoring for several years now, so I'm going to call that a win.

Writing is strange, isn't it? Saturday afternoon, I had that, I'm not going to finish anything significant in the house/chores realm, so I might as well write on this print-out of the second half of The Prequel that I've been carrying around for a couple of months now. I read it over, polished some sentences, added a few here and there, and typed in the changes. It's at 11,848 words, at least halfway through, and I'm very vague about what should happen in the rest of the fic. So I looked at the Qui/Obi I wrote recently, which was 3,600 words, and written in a day and a half. Why can't I do that all the time? Why do some stories take so long?

Did you ever have a time where you kinda drew a line in the sand with a friend, and the friend's reaction was basically, "Okay," and on one hand, you were grateful not to get into a big argument over something that stressed you a lot, but on the other hand, there was a sense of... Huh. I think I wish she'd cared enough to make a token effort to argue. She didn't. I handled that on Friday and still feel unsettled by it.

But one more fun thing today, meeting up with friends to see The Mousetrap. I saw it, several decades ago. I do remember Who Done It, but little else. It'll be good to see it again.

Some more sad news for Doctor Who fans (well, of the Classic variety at least): Deborah Watling has died, aka companion Victoria Waterfield. A lot of people have linked to the clip from Tomb, but it is such a beautiful scene, so I'm going to do it as well:

(Forgive the embed outside the cut this once.)

Victoria was a companion that I always liked the idea of more than what they actually did with her most of the time, but Debbie Watling always seemed pretty lovely, and she had a very good relationship and rapport with both Patrick and Frazer. My old telly adventures have also led to me watching her (at least briefly) appear in The Power Game, along with her father, Jack, who was a regular (a favour which she returned in DW, getting him cast as Professor Travers in two of the Yeti stories).

New Cat already has a new name - Lap Cat.

I was even sitting with one foot tucked under me and had to adjust because my foot was falling asleep. Usually when an animal is on my lap and I shift, that animal gets huffy and leaps off. But no, Lap Cat adjusted with me. Whenever I need him to get off, he demonstrates that magical ability where a cat becomes boneless and weighs 10 more pounds. He has the lap now and he is not surrendering it!
